Mercedes reveals the new Sprinter

The Mercedes Sprinter was first introduced in 1995, and in the last 18 years, 2.47 million units have been sold, becoming one of the most sold vehicles in the world, so the German brand had to present a worthy successor to the original Sprinter, that has helped many costumers in their tasks.

This van is sold in 130 countries, but since the European market is one of the most restrictive in relation to gas emissions, Mercedes was obliged to also introduce new engines that comply with the Euro 6 standard, which comes into effect from 2014.

To achieve a reduction of the nitrogen oxides (NOx), total hydrocarbons (THC), and particulate mass emissions, Mercedes uses BlueTec engines and the SCR technology that injects AdBlue into the exhaust gas. The exhaust treatment stage is used to optimize the fuel injection and the combustion processes as well as the boost pressure, giving the engine a lower fuel consumption, that can reach the 6.3l/100km (44.83 UK mpg or 37.34 USA mpg).

The diesel engines are available with 4 or 6 cylinders, with power varying between 70kW (94hp or 95PS) and 140kW (188hp or 190PS), but Mercedes also offers a supercharged four-cylinder 1.8 liter petrol engine with direct injection that generates 115kW (154hp or 156PS).

Regardless of the chosen engine, Mercedes offers the ECO-Gear six-speed manual gearbox or the 7G-TRONIC PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission with lock-up clutch.

The exterior is now more akin to the one used in the latest models of the German brand, while the interior suffered several changes in order to increase the driver's comfort, like the new upholstery and seat coverings, the thicker steering wheel and a redesigned gearshift lever.

Mercedes also fitted Sprinter with a new radio system with "state-of-the-art" electronic entertainment features, Bluetooth telephone equipment and the Becker MAP PILOT navigation system.
